Press Release 27.11.11

There have been two matches in division one this week and both results ended in a 6-4 to the Angles. The first match was against Copsewood for whom Gokhan Aydogdu showed his recent good form by winning his three games, however two apiece for Simon Griew and Kevin Pilgrim helped secure the win for the Angles. The second match was against Free Church and once again a hat trick for the opposition (Deepak Chandrababu) was not enough to stop the Angles gaining their second win.
It remains very tight in division two after this weeks matches. Nalgo started the week with a good   7-3 win against the leaders Aspen however in their next match they lost 6-4 to the Britons who are now starting to close in on the promotion spots.
Aspen hit back after their defeat by beating Nomads 8-2. Callum Martin was in good form by winning his singles games and combining with Kasey Birtley to win the doubles.
In the other match in the division, Celts won their first match by winning 7-3 at Beechwood ‘A’.
Birch remain top of division three after beating JDC Fords 7-3, however with games in hand, the Druids and the Ebos are still within touch after they drew 5-5 against each other in which Keith Woodcock won his three for the Ebos. Massey ‘B’  claimed their first win by beating the relegation threatened Francs 6-4.
The Goths remain top of the fourth division despite losing 7-3 to the close rivals the Huns. The result leaves the Huns just one point behind top spot, but they have two games in hand and they now look favourites for the title.
Chestnuts did themselves no harm in their attempt to avoid relegation after they beat W.C.C. Flounders 6-4.
There was no surprise in division five as the Jutes continue to dominate the division with another 10-0 win, this time against the Kaffirs. The Damsons also produced a 10-0 victory against bottom side the Filberts, however a much closer match took place between the Elms and the Lapps in which the Elms ran out 6-4 winners.

In league division 1 St Georges maintained the pressure on last season’s champions Phoenix with three strong wins against Free Church (10-0), Massey Ferguson (9-1) and Copsewood (8-2). In this match there was a shock for previously unbeaten Mark Jackson of St Georges who lost in five games to Copsewood’s Richard Jardim. Massey Ferguson also lost to Phoenix (10-0) and Angles (10-0) to make their relegation battle even more difficult.
In division 2 Celts already looked doomed losing to leaders Aspen (9-1) and Britons (9-1) but other results mean that the remaining relegation place and promotion is going to the wire with all five other teams in close contention. Beechwood did their cause no harm with victories against Nomads (7-3) and Britons (7-3) but Nomads recovered to beat rivals Nalgo (7-3).
The fight for promotion from division 3 seems to be between Birch, Druids and Ebos. Druids are favourites with wins against rivals Birch (6-4) and Francs (9-1). Birch fought back to gain a close win against Massey Ferguson (6-4). Ebos also helped their cause with a strong win against Francs (9-1). Francs, promoted from division 4 last season, are finding the going tough. With JDC Fords having matches in hand the final picture is still uncertain.
Huns have a slight advantage in division 4 after beating a weakened JDC Sovereigns team (10-0) and still having a match in hand. Huns have revitalised with the return after many years of Simon Finch. JDC returned to winning ways against WCC Flounders (7-3). Goths are another team showing winning ways against Chestnut (6-4) and promoted Beechwood (6-4).
With no relegation players in division 5 can relax and enjoy their first competitive season. Leading the way and almost certain of promotion are the Jutes. George Allison (12) and Sam Coombes (13) are showing their potential with two more good wins against Filberts (10-0) and Lapps (8-2). Second placed Elms had their promotion hopes dented with a tight win against Kaffirs (7-3). Elms lost further ground when drawing with rivals Damson (5-5. Damson further strengthened their promotion chances with an excellent win against Lapps (7-3).

Division two now sees Nalgo head the table after their match against the Celts ended early. With one player short and an injury during the match to another, the Celts were unable to stop Nalgo winning by 10-0.
Aspen have moved into second place after a good 8-2 victory over Beechwood ‘A’. Callum Martin and Dave Abbey both went unbeaten for Aspen.
The Britons won a tight encounter with Nomads with the final score being 6-4.
Two matches were played in division one and Free Church won on their return to the league when they met Copsewood and fought out a 6-4 victory. Deepak Chandrababu remained unbeaten for Free Church.
The other match this week saw the Angles come up against the champions Phoenix and despite being bolstered by the addition of Kevin Pilgrim to their team they could not stop the league leaders running out 9-1 victors. Xioayang Ma continues to show his improvement to remain on 100% in the top flight.

How the ranking list works

The ranking list works by calculating matches between individual players in the league competition or in cup competitions or tournaments. Matches in handicaps and doubles games are not included. The league rankings are also used in the calculation of handicaps and the seeding in tournaments and can be used to show the progress of individual players over a period of time.

Using the table below, the difference in points between the two players is calculated, and then depending on the result, the number of points is allocated to each individual.

If for example Player A (2500 points) plays Player B (2250 points), the difference between the 2 players is 250 points.

If player A beats player B, it is an expected win for player A and therefore he gains 5 points and it is an expected loss for player B and so he would loose 2 points.

If player B were to cause an upset and beat player A you would have to look in the unexpected columns to work out the points gained or lost.

Player B would gain 33 points as he has had an unexpected win and player A would loose 12 points as he has had an unexpected loss.
