Press Release 05.04.10

With the season drawing to a close and with just re-arranged fixtures still to play in the league, the competition is still to play for as only the titles in division one and two have been decided.
Division one has potentially five teams still trying to avoid relegation, but realistically it will be two from three sides that will face the drop. After losing to the runners up St. Georges ‘B’ 10-0, Phoenix Ebos faced relegation rivals Phoenix Britons and it was the Britons who won 7-3 to create a 5 point gap from the bottom two. Nuneaton still have a game in hand over the other two sides, but have a nine point gap to retrieve. The averages this season have been won by Andy Woodcock.
Division two still has promotion and relegation possibilities however Rugby need just three points from their final three games to be promoted and now seem certainties to join Copsewood ‘A’, who go up as champions, in division one next season.
At the bottom Copsewood ‘D’ are still fighting to avoid the drop after winning their last two matches which are their first wins of the whole season. They now lie two points behind the next team, but with an away match against Rugby as their final match they will need to be on top form.
JDC Fords still have games in hand, but will need to gain some good results if they want to avoid dropping back into the third division.
Massey ‘B’ have taken a big step towards promotion in division three after two big wins. If they take five points or more from their final match against Copsewood ‘G’ they will finish in the top two.
Beechwood ‘B’ and Phoenix Francs faced each other in a huge match for each sides promotion ambitions and it was Beechwood who edged the result 6-4 leaving them four points clear of their opponents. Both sides have bottom side Copsewood ‘E’ to play in their final match and nothing short of a 10-0 win for the Francs may mean they miss out this season.

Press Release 29.03.10

Phoenix have won this seasons division one title after a 10-0 win over Nuneaton. Despite having Kevin Pilgrim out for all but one game through injury, Ryan Stockham, Andy Woodcock and Ron Vose have wrapped up the title with two matches remaining. One of those matches is still an important one however with the winner of the averages up for grabs and the match against St Georges ‘B’ will go a long way in deciding who will come out on top.
At the bottom of the table, two points separate the bottom three teams and with two going down it will mean every point gained we be an important one.
Rugby look to have secured the second promotion spot in division two after a good 7-3 win against the leaders Copsewood ‘A’. Rugby need just 3 more points from their remaining three matches in order to finish their task, but they will still be aiming their sights at the top spot.
At the bottom, JDC Fords and Copsewood ‘D’ will need to pick up some good wins if they want to avoid the drop.
Division three is also going down to the wire in the hunt for promotion with four teams still with a chance of gaining one of the top two places. Beechwood ‘B’ looked to be certainties for one of the places, but Phoenix Huns have given themselves an outside chance after beating them 8-2 which means Beechwood will still be looking over their shoulder at the chasing pack. William Odei and Elliott Clarke both scored maximums and combined to win the doubles.
Phoenix Francs and Massey ‘B’ will be hoping to finish the season with good results to claim a top two finish.
This year the presentation evening will take place at the Spencer Sports and Social club in Earlsdon on June 4th. There will be food and music on the night and tickets are just £5.

Press Release15.03.10

Copsewood ‘A’ have become the first team to gain promotion after winning three recent matches in division two. First they beat Massey ‘A’ 9-1 and despite Dave Abbey losing the only game, he still sits at the top of the averages. Perhaps the most decisive win was a 10-0 domination of third placed Phoenix Okimo and this was followed by a 9-1 win against mid table Phoenix Spice.
Massey ‘A’ recovered after their loss by winning two other matches. Copsewood ‘B’ were the first victims as they lost 8-2 with John Ludford winning a maximum for Massey ‘A’ and this was followed by a 7-3 win against JDC Fords in which Dave Smith provided a vital three wins for JDC to help them try to avoid relegation back to division three.  Two of the other sides battling against relegation met this week as Copsewood ‘C’ AND ‘D’ played a tense match which Copsewood ‘C’ came out 6-4 winners.
Division three is the closest division at the top in the battle for promotion with just seven points separating the top three sides with three matches remaining. Beechwood ‘B’ sit at the top after three recent wins. Two 7-3 wins against Copsewood ‘G’ and JDC Sovereign, the latter in which Norman Croston lost his first match of the season against Dave Rogers, were followed by a crunch match against promotion rivals Massey ‘B’. Beechwood just managed to edge the match 6-4 to gain a couple of points on the third placed side. Massey ‘B’ also had another crucial match against second placed Phoenix Francs and this time they reversed their fortune by winning 7-3.
Phoenix Goths remain in mid table after winning 8-2 against Copsewood ‘E’ and Copsewood ‘F’ continue to improve with a 7-3 win against JDC Sovereign.
St. Georges ‘B’ had three more wins in division one. Two 7-3 wins against Beechwood and an 8-2 win against Copsewood means they sit clear in second place, but the title looks like it will head the way of Phoenix again after a 9-1 and a 10-0 win against Phoenix Angles.

Press Release 01.03.10

The battle to avoid relegation remains close in division one as it now looks like it will be two from four teams who will be biting the finger nails. St Georges ‘A’ have now slipped into the bottom two after losing 10-0 against leaders Phoenix. St Georges were bolstered by their number one Earl Sweeney playing his first match however he could not overcome his opponents which included Coventry number one Adrian Pilgrim.
Two of the other teams involved in the fight are Phoenix Britons and Nuneaton and they met this week. Nuneaton, despite playing with two men, came out 6-4 winners which mean they close the gap at the bottom of the table. The other side involved are Phoenix Ebos and the met Phoenix Angles who sit comfortable near the top end of the table. The Ebos will probably be happy with a 6-4 defeat as they pick up crucial points.
Copsewood ‘B’ and Phoenix Spice met in division two and the Spice narrowly won 6-4 however the man of the match award goes to Tony Nixon who won his three games for Copsewood.
Copsewood ‘C’ are currently sitting just above the relegation zone and they faced Phoenix Okimo who are third. A 5-5 score line resulted in which Steve Smith scored a maximum for Copsewood. The result moves them ahead of Phoenix Celts after they faced Rugby. A 9-1 defeat for the Celts means that they will be looking over their shoulders for the other results at the bottom.
The tightest division looks to be division three. Four teams are pushing for promotion and it is now Phoenix Francs who sit at the top after beating bottom team Copsewood ‘E’ 10-0.
Massey Ferguson ‘B’  are now just behind the top two after beating Phoenix Goths 7-3 with help from Rod Pearce who won his three and the doubles.
The team most likely to miss out are Phoenix Huns who drew 5-5 against Copsewood ‘G’ despite a Taran Dhillon hat trick.
Copsewood ‘F’ closed the gap on the teams in mid table after beating their club mates Copsewood ‘E’ 8-2.

Press Release 21.02.10

There were several matches this week in division two in which the results could have had a big effect on the league tables both at the top and the bottom. Phoenix Okimo played two matches and came out with two wins, the first of which was an away win against Massey ‘A’. Jonny Pilgrim survived a scare against John Ludford, but managed to come through deuce in the fifth to help him to a maximum on the night and his team to a 7-3 score line. The second match was against bottom team JDC Fords however this position could well be a false one as JDC have 6 games in hand on their rivals. The match ended in a win for Okimo however Dave Smith won a maximum for Fords and helped his team win the doubles to limit the loss to 6-4.
Massey ‘A’ also played against Copsewood ‘D’ and this time they came out winners 8-2. The result means time is running out for Copsewood to get them selves out of the relegation zone.
Copsewood ‘C’ picked up three crucial points against promotion contenders Rugby which edges them away from the bottom two places, but for Rugby the seven points gained keeps up their momentum for the division one place next season.
Phoenix Spice came out winners 6-4 against Phoenix Celts which keeps both teams in mid table and Copsewood ‘A’ look to be moving clear at the top after winning 9-1 against Copsewood ‘B’.
Phoenix Francs moved to the top of the table in division three after a 5-5 draw against mid table Phoenix Goths. Massey ‘B’ and Phoenix Huns are both poised to strike at the top if the top two drop points after they both won 7-3 against Copsewood ‘F’ and JDC Sovereign respectively.
One match in division one which saw leaders Phoenix squeeze past Copsewood 6-4. Gokhan Aydoghu and Paul Calloway both won two for Copsewood, but it was Andy Woodcock who moves top of the averages after winning his three games for Phoenix.

Press Release 14.02.10

The relegation battle in division one looks like it could go down to the final matches this season. There is now a gap between the bottom four sides and the rest of the division, but with St Georges ‘A’ having 3 games in hand over the other three sides they look as if they should have enough to pull clear. The three sides who are expected to be fighting to stay out of the bottom two all played this week and it was Nuneaton, who are currently lying in the bottom position, who picked up the most points after they narrowly lost 6-4 against Beechwood ‘A’ despite being without their number one player.
Phoenix Ebos who also sit it the drop zone faced a tough task against Phoenix and although there were a couple of close matches, they were the victims of a 10-0 defeat.
The team to move out of the relegation places are Phoenix Britons who faced Phoenix Angles. In a match which had six of the ten games go to five close sets, it is the Britons who may well feel hard done by after losing 8-2.
Copsewood ‘A’ look to be clear favourites for the division two title after yet another 10-0 win this time against relegation threatened Copsewood ‘D’.
Phoenix Celts are starting to pull clear of the relegation zone as they are now 12 points clear with two matches in hand after a draw against mid table Copsewood ‘B’ for whom Tony Nixon scored a maximum.
Copsewood ‘C’ picked up two points this week after losing to Phoenix Spice, but they will need to look over their shoulders as JDC Fords can still rise out of the drop zone with their six games in hand.
There were two 9-1 score lines in division three this week. Second placed Phoenix Francs defeated Copsewood ‘G’ and third placed Phoenix Huns beat Copsewood ‘E’.
Phoenix Goths picked up a good 7-3 win against Copsewood ‘F’ thanks to a treble from Jim Scott and two from Sarah Hudson.

How the ranking list works

The ranking list works by calculating matches between individual players in the league competition or in cup competitions or tournaments. Matches in handicaps and doubles games are not included. The league rankings are also used in the calculation of handicaps and the seeding in tournaments and can be used to show the progress of individual players over a period of time.
Using the table below, the difference in points between the two players is calculated, and then depending on the result, the number of points is allocated to each individual.

If for example Player A (2500 points) plays Player B (2250 points), the difference between the 2 players is 250 points.
If player A beats player B, it is an expected win for player A and therefore he gains 5 points and it is an expected loss for player B and so he would loose 2 points.
If player B were to cause an upset and beat player A you would have to look in the unexpected columns to work out the points gained or lost.
Player B would gain 33 points as he has had an unexpected win and player A would loose 18 points as he has had an unexpected loss.
